Trainee Manager (Tokai & Sun Valley)

📝 About the role

Shoprite is looking for Trainee Managers for its Tokai and Sun Valley stores in Cape Town. You learn how to run a supermarket day to day, from customer service and stock control to coaching staff and helping with budgets and reports. Previous retail experience helps but the main requirement is matric and leadership potential.

✅ Key duties

• Assist in the daily management of supermarket operations to ensure smooth and efficient store functioning
• Support the development and coaching of team members to foster a motivated and high-performing workforce
• Ensure compliance with company policies, hygiene, health, and safety standards at all times
• Contribute to effective inventory control and loss prevention initiatives to sustain financial performance
• Provide excellent customer service, creating a welcoming and friendly atmosphere for all shoppers
• Participate in financial and administrative tasks, aiding in budgeting, reporting, and cost control
• Promote a positive store culture based on trust, honesty, integrity, and respect
• Support in implementing marketing and promotional activities to drive sales and customer engagement

🎓 Requirements

• Matric certificate or equivalent secondary education qualification is required
• Previous experience in retail or customer service environments is advantageous
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage effectively with customers and team members
• Basic understanding of retail operations, including inventory management and loss prevention, is preferred
• Demonstrated leadership potential with willingness to learn and develop management skills
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks efficiently
• Proactive problem-solving skills to address customer and employee concerns professionally
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail to support administrative and financial tasks
