📝 About the role
The Department of Land Reform and Rural Development is recruiting a Surveyor-General (SMS, Level 14) for the Eastern Cape, based in East London. The Surveyor-General manages approval of diagrams, general plans and sectional title plans, keeps cadastral records and spatial data, and runs the provincial office.
✅ Key duties
- Manage approval of diagrams, general plans and sectional title plans in line with legislation
- Examine cadastral documents under the Land Survey, Sectional Titles and Mining Titles Registration Acts
- Archive, preserve and maintain records of approved land parcels and rights, including a secure vault and scanned repository
- Keep an accurate cadastral spatial information dataset and management information systems
- Train land surveyors, geomatics technologists, technicians and officers
- Support land reform, restitution and land administration programmes; do field surveys and resolve boundary disputes
- Manage finances, budgeting, HR, supply chain and performance of the provincial office
🎓 Requirements
- Grade 12 and a 4-year BSc/B degree in Geomatics/Land Surveying (NQF 7) or equivalent
- Nyukela Pre-entry Certificate to SMS before appointment
- Registered as a Professional Land Surveyor with the South African Geomatics Council
- Registered as a Sectional Titles Practitioner (Sectional Titles Act s5(2))
- At least 5 years at senior managerial level in land surveying
- Post-registration experience in cadastral surveying
- Valid driver's licence
- Knowledge of cadastral surveys, land information systems, PFMA and budgeting
- Project and team management, problem solving and communication skills
