📝 About the role
The National Prosecuting Authority is hiring a State Advocate for the DPP office in Mmabatho (Mahikeng). The advocate guides investigations and prosecutes cases on behalf of the State in all courts.
✅ Key duties
- Study and guide investigations in case dockets
- Decide on and conduct criminal proceedings
- Draft charge sheets, indictments and other court documents
- Present the State's case, lead and cross-examine witnesses and address the court
- Attend to representations, prepare opinions and heads of argument
- Appear in motion applications in criminal matters
- Promote partner integration and community involvement in the justice system
🎓 Requirements
- LLB (serving prosecutors seeking promotion: any appropriate legal qualification)
- Right of appearance under section 25(2) of the NPA Act
- At least 5 years' post-qualification legal experience
- Legal research and drafting skills
- Good knowledge of civil and/or criminal procedure
- Proficiency in prosecution/litigation and guiding investigations
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
