📝 About the role

Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital (Gauteng Department of Health) has two Social Auxiliary Worker Grade 1 posts in Therapeutics (Social Services), Soweto. Working under a Social Worker, they screen patients' socio-economic needs, provide basic counselling, trace families and assist with case management. No experience is required.

✅ Key duties

• Provide support services under a Social Worker's supervision
• Do basic assessments of patients' socio-economic circumstances and refer to community resources
• Provide basic counselling and support to patients and families
• Assist with intake, referrals, follow-ups and discharge planning
• Trace families for reunification and continuity of care
• Help find placement facilities
• Take part in community awareness programmes
• Handle patient administration, statistics and accurate records
• Rotate within the department and attend CPD activities

🎓 Requirements

• Matric or ABET equivalent
• Qualification allowing registration with SACSSP as a Social Auxiliary Worker
• Current SACSSP registration for 2026
• No experience required; CHBAH exposure is an advantage (preference to current CHBAH Covid staff)
• Compulsory driver's licence (for home visits and tracing)
• Good verbal and written communication; computer literate
• Ability to work independently, in a team and under pressure
