📝 About the role
The NPA's Specialised Commercial Crime Unit in Mmabatho is re-advertising a Senior State Advocate post. The advocate prosecutes serious, complex and organised crime, corruption and money-laundering cases and mentors junior advocates.
✅ Key duties
- Prosecute serious, complex and organised crime, corruption and money-laundering cases
- Advise police on investigations, including cyber-related matters
- Conduct legal research and keep up with legal developments
- Draft charge sheets and court documents and represent the State in all courts
- Draft heads of argument and argue appeals and reviews
- Present cases, lead witnesses and cross-examine
- Mentor and guide junior advocates and manage their performance
- Transfer skills to lower-court prosecutors and investigators
🎓 Requirements
- LLB (serving prosecutors seeking promotion: any appropriate legal qualification)
- At least 8 years' post-qualification experience in civil and/or criminal litigation
- Right of appearance under section 25(2) of the NPA Act
- Admission as advocate or attorney is an advantage
- Knowledge of PFMA, MFMA and money-laundering matters
- Strong legal research, drafting and advocacy skills
- Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Valid driver's licence
