📝 About the role
Senior State Advocate in the Organised Crime Component (OCC) of the NPA at DPP: Limpopo (Polokwane). The advocate prosecutes complex commercial, corruption and organised crime cases in all courts and mentors junior staff and investigators. Post 35/116 in DPSA Circular 35.
✅ Key duties
- Study case dockets and decide on and conduct criminal proceedings
- Deal with representations
- Guide investigations in complex commercial, corruption and organised crime matters
- Prepare cases and draft charge sheets, indictments, heads of argument and opinions
- Represent the State in all courts; lead and cross-examine witnesses
- Manage court and case flow independently; deal with appeals and reviews
- Manage any portfolio assigned by the Deputy Director managing the OCC
- Mentor and guide DPCI/SAPS investigators, prosecutors and stakeholders
- Assist in high-profile and high-risk matters
- Mentor and coach junior staff and quality-check their work
🎓 Requirements
- LLB (serving prosecutors seeking promotion: any appropriate legal qualification)
- At least 8 years' post-qualification legal experience in civil and/or criminal litigation
- At least 3 years' experience prosecuting/litigating organised crime cases
- Right of appearance under section 25(2) of the NPA Act
- 5 years' legal practice and admission as advocate/attorney an added advantage
- Good knowledge of civil and/or criminal procedure; strong advocacy, research and drafting skills
- Knowledge of asset forfeiture law an added advantage
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
- Ability to work independently
