๐ About the role
North-West University's Vaal Campus (Vanderbijlpark) is hiring a permanent Senior Lecturer / Lecturer in English (Peromnes A7/A8) in the School of Languages. The role teaches English linguistics (especially syntax and morphology), leads the campus's linguistics division, supervises postgraduates and publishes research. Previous applicants do not need to re-apply.
โ Key duties
- Teach English linguistics at undergraduate and honours level (syntax, morphology, semantics)
- Supervise MA and PhD students
- Set, mark and moderate assessments and manage marks
- Hold consultation hours and attend subject meetings
- Act as module convenor across the three NWU sites
- Maintain module files for programme evaluation
- Publish in accredited journals and present at conferences
- Take part in community engagement and university service
๐ Requirements
- Senior Lecturer: PhD (NQF 10) in English Linguistics or Applied Linguistics, teaching/research experience (stated as 'three (4) years'), at least 2 accredited articles and postgraduate supervision experience
- Lecturer: Master's (NQF 9) in English Linguistics or Applied Linguistics and at least 2 years' teaching, learning and research experience
- Membership of linguistics associations is an advantage
- Excellent English and communication skills
- Strong computer literacy incl. LMS, MS Teams and MS Office
- Competent knowledge of linguistic theory and its application
