📝 About the role
The National Department of Agriculture is hiring a Senior Agricultural Scientist (Senior Lecturer) in Animal Science at the Grootfontein Agricultural Development Institute in Middelburg, Eastern Cape. The role develops curricula, lectures, supervises students on production units and does applied research.
✅ Key duties
- Oversee development and implementation of the academic curriculum for the subject
- Prepare and present lectures, tutorials, practicals and short courses
- Set, mark and moderate assessments and exams
- Guide students in planning and managing livestock production units (mini farms)
- Do applied research and present findings; advise farmers
- Handle academic administration, timetables, reports and committee work
- Supervise and develop subordinates and manage assets
🎓 Requirements
- Grade 12 certificate
- BSc in Agriculture (Animal Science)
- At least 3 years' experience in higher education
- Knowledge of public service legislation and agricultural policy
- Training, presentation and supervisory skills
- Computer skills
- Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel
- Willing to work extended hours
