Registrar (Medical) – Surgery / Anaesthesia (contract)

📝 About the role

The North West Department of Health is appointing medical registrars to train as specialists in paediatric surgery, general surgery and anaesthesia. Posts are at Klerksdorp/Tshepong, Joe Morolong (Vryburg), Mafikeng Provincial and Potchefstroom hospitals, on four- or five-year contracts, jointly with Wits, UP or Sefako Makgatho universities.

✅ Key duties

• Interview, investigate, diagnose, and oversee the treatment of patients
• Supervise junior doctors (Undergraduate Students, Interns and Community Service Doctors)
• Attend of relevant administrative meetings like mortality meetings, near MISS meetings and completing MEDICO Legal Documents timeously (e.g Death Certificate)
• Improve quality of care by providing appropriate clinical care
• Reduce medical litigation by exercising good clinical ethos
• Implement and monitor adherence to National Core Standards (norms and standards)
• Participate in all activities of the discipline in relation to teaching and research
• Participate in multidisciplinary team to the management of patients

🎓 Requirements

• Appropriate qualification allowing HPCSA registration as a Registrar (Independent Practitioner)
• Completed community service
• Shortlisted candidates must show current HPCSA registration as Medical Practitioner in Independent Practice
• Non-South Africans need a valid work permit
• Registrars rotate between institutions in North West and Gauteng
• Advantage: 12 months experience in the relevant field, CMSA Part 1, ACLS/ATLS courses
