📝 About the role

Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness (Garden Route District) is hiring a Professional Nurse Grade 1 to 2 specialising in Mental Health, based at PHC Support & Outreach in the Knysna/Bitou sub-district. The nurse provides acute and chronic mental health care to clients of all ages at primary health care facilities.

✅ Key duties

• Provide acute and chronic mental health care to clients of all ages at PHC facilities in Knysna/Bitou
• Do culturally sensitive bio-psychosocial health assessments
• Design and implement treatment plans and evaluate outcomes
• Case management: organising, coordinating and integrating services
• Promote mental health through education, counselling and psycho-social rehabilitation
• Help train and clinically supervise other health care providers

🎓 Requirements

• Basic R425 nursing diploma/degree (or equivalent) allowing SANC registration as a Professional Nurse
• 1-year post-basic qualification in Advanced Psychiatric Nursing Science (R212), or a 4-year nursing degree plus a postgraduate diploma in Mental Health Nursing
• Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse
• Grade 1: at least 4 years' nursing experience after SANC registration; Grade 2: at least 14 years (10 of them after the specialty qualification)
• Valid driver's licence
• Willingness to work overtime when needed
• Knowledge of Mental Health legislation and psychopharmacology
• Good assessment, problem-solving, communication and record-keeping skills
