📝 About the role
KwaZulu-Natal Health is hiring three Professional Nurses (General Stream, Grade 1) at Umzimkhulu Psychiatric Hospital. They supervise and provide clinical nursing care, with special interest in psychiatric nursing, and work shifts.
✅ Key duties
- Direct and supervise implementation of the nursing plan and quality patient care
- Implement standards and indicators for quality nursing
- Perform clinical nursing care within the professional scope of practice
- Keep accurate and complete patient records and provide statistics
- Assist the unit manager with running the unit
- Work in a multidisciplinary team and take part in health promotion and outreach
- Assist with staff performance planning, monitoring and evaluation
- Handle discipline, grievance and labour relations issues
- Take part in continuous professional development
- Work shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays
🎓 Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent
- Basic R425 qualification (degree/diploma in nursing) or equivalent allowing SANC registration as a Professional Nurse
- Registration with SANC as a Professional Nurse and 2026 SANC receipt
- Certificate of service from previous/current employer endorsed by HR
- Knowledge of nursing statutes and relevant legislation (Nursing Act, Mental Health Care Act, etc.)
- Special interest in psychiatric nursing
- Communication, report-writing, supervisory, planning and computer skills
