📝 About the role
Umzimkhulu Psychiatric Hospital (KZN Health) is hiring a Nursing Assistant Grade 1. The role provides elementary clinical nursing care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, assists patients with daily living and keeps accurate patient records.
✅ Key duties
- Provide elementary clinical nursing practice within the scope of practice
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (physical care) and hygiene needs
- Implement nursing care plans, standards, policies and procedures
- Provide health education to patients, families and community
- Provide a safe and therapeutic environment
- Maintain accurate and complete patient records
- Follow infection prevention and control protocols
- Escort patients to other hospitals when needed
- Participate in Continuous Professional Development
🎓 Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12 or equivalent
- Nursing Assistant certificate allowing registration with SANC
- Current SANC registration (2026 SANC receipt)
- Knowledge of nursing statutes and relevant legislation (Nursing Act, Health Act, OHS Act, Batho Pele, PSR, LRA)
- Elementary communication and writing skills
- Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team under a Registered Nurse's supervision
- Good interpersonal skills, empathy and sensitivity
