📝 About the role
Free State Health is hiring two Medical Specialists in Paediatrics (Grade 1–3) at Pelonomi Tertiary Hospital in Bloemfontein. The specialists manage paediatric patients, supervise junior doctors and do outreach across the province.
✅ Key duties
- Manage all medical conditions and provide competent patient care
- Brief and counsel patients and relatives on prevention, treatment and rehabilitation
- Provide resuscitation and intensive care for critically ill patients
- Prescribe medication, order and interpret tests, and assist in procedures
- Supervise and train junior staff
- Keep accurate medical and medico-legal records
- Ensure clinical governance and compliance (FSDoH, OHSC, HPCSA, CMSA, UFS)
- Consult outpatients for chronic disease management and follow-up
- Provide outreach to other levels of care in the Free State
- Conduct clinical audits and monitor clinical indicators
🎓 Requirements
- Senior Certificate / Grade 12
- Qualification allowing HPCSA registration as a Medical Specialist in Paediatrics
- Initial and current HPCSA registration as a Paediatrics specialist (2026/2027)
- Grade 1: no experience after specialist registration; Grade 2: 5 years; Grade 3: 10 years
- ATLS and APLS
- Clinical competence, communication, leadership and teamwork
