📝 About the role

The Gauteng Department of Health's Forensic Pathology Service is hiring a Medical Officer (Grade 1–3) at Germiston FPS. The doctor investigates medico-legal deaths, including scene attendance, forensic autopsies, reports and court evidence, with after-hours and weekend calls.

✅ Key duties

• Provide medico-legal death investigation, including death scene attendance
• Do after-hours and weekend services
• Perform forensic post-mortems and medico-legal autopsies
• Prepare medico-legal reports and give evidence in court
• Support a standardised, quality forensic pathology service
• Complete statistical documents and maintain records
• Take part in departmental learning
• Assist the Head: Clinical Unit with service and management duties

🎓 Requirements

• Registration with HPCSA as a Medical Practitioner and current annual registration
• Grade 1: no experience after HPCSA registration; Grade 2: 5 years; Grade 3: 10 years
• Willing to work after hours, including overnight and weekend calls, and reach the scene within 30–45 minutes
• Valid driver's licence
• Willing to do forensic autopsies and give evidence in court
• Computer literacy (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
• Willing to obtain CMSA Dip For Med(SA) within 12–24 months
• Working knowledge of FPS legislation
