Internship: Counselling Psychologist 2027

๐ About the role
Rhodes University's Student Counselling Centre in Makhanda offers a 12-month internship for a Counselling Psychologist in 2027. The intern provides psychotherapy, assessments, crisis support and psycho-education to students under senior psychologists.
โ Key duties
- Provide individual (short-term), couple, group and family therapy for students
- HIV pre- and post-test counselling for students and staff
- Crisis intervention as part of a team, including after-hours call-outs
- Psychological and career assessments of students
- Develop and run training courses for staff and students (supervised)
- Develop and distribute information materials and promote student well-being
๐ Requirements
- Currently in the first year of a Master's in Counselling Psychology at an accredited university
- Registered as a Student Psychologist with the HPCSA
- Knowledge of adolescent/early adult development and evidence-based counselling skills
- Ethical, professional, organised and computer literate
- Strong English communication; isiXhosa an advantage
- Willing to be called out after hours and respond within 20 minutes (must live within 16 km of the University)
