📝 About the role
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources is hiring an Inspector: Mine Health and Safety for its KwaZulu-Natal regional office in Durban. The inspector audits and inspects mines and investigates accidents and complaints.
✅ Key duties
- Conduct and report on underground, shaft and surface audits and inspections (ground stability, support, explosives, blasting, safety)
- Take enforcement action where necessary
- Investigate and report on mine accidents, contraventions and complaints
- Analyse accidents and trends to find high-risk operations
- Serve on boards of examiners
- Give input on mine closures, prospecting and mining rights, permits, EMPs and township development
- Contribute to regional reports and revisions of mining regulations and guidelines
🎓 Requirements
- National Diploma in Mining Engineering (NQF 6)
- Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency
- At least 3 years' experience in mining
- Valid driver's licence
- Practical and theoretical mining and legal knowledge
- Teamwork, communication, negotiation, conflict handling and computer literacy
