📝 About the role
KZN COGTA (Geospatial Information Service, Municipal Planning) seeks a GIS Technician Control Grade B in Pietermaritzburg. The role manages and performs technical GISc work, runs enterprise GIS platforms and the Integrated Land Information System, and supports provincial planning and municipalities with spatial intelligence.
✅ Key duties
- Manage, supervise and perform technical GISc activities and maintain GIS unit effectiveness
- Coordinate KZN COGTA's geospatial programmes and manage enterprise GIS platforms
- Maintain the Integrated Land Information System (ILIS)
- Develop and support geospatial dashboards
- Coordinate georeferencing of strategic provincial projects
- Provide spatial intelligence for DDM, MLED, disaster risk reduction and climate change work
- Support municipalities with GIS training, advice, data management and capacity-building
- Conduct spatial analysis and produce maps and analytical reports
- Manage people and do functional requirement analysis and research
🎓 Requirements
- Recognised Diploma in GISc, Cartography or relevant qualification (SAQA recognised)
- 6 years' post-qualification technical GISc experience
- Compulsory registration with SAGC as a GISc Technician
- Valid driver's licence
- Knowledge of geo-databases, GIS standards, software and customisation
- Basic understanding of GPS, photogrammetry, remote sensing, projections and cartography
- Project management, analytical, communication and computer skills
