📝 About the role

Dis-Chem's Optenhorst store in Paarl North has a Dispensary Support (learner pharmacist assistant) opening. Learners are employed on a fixed-term contract while completing the learner basic pharmacist assistant course and are offered permanent employment only once qualified as a basic pharmacist assistant.

✅ Key duties

• Sell Schedule 1 medicines under a pharmacist's direct supervision
• Assist with compounding and preparing non-sterile medicines per SOPs
• Unpack and merchandise stock and clean dispensary and OTC shelves
• Learn to interpret scripts accurately within SAPC legal requirements
• Pick, pack, label and check medication; know common dosages and drug interactions
• Help control Schedule 1-5 stock, including expiry dates
• Follow up with patients on script tracking and appointments
• Assist with call centre scripts and patient phone calls
• Assist with medical scheme authorisation of chronic, HIV/AIDS and oncology medicine
• Receive dispensary stock and report low stock and stock errors

🎓 Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric (or Senior Certificate) with Pure Mathematics 50%, Life Science and/or Physical Science, and at least a 50% average
• Pass a proficiency test showing you can register with the SAPC as a learner basic pharmacist's assistant
• English plus a second language (read, write, speak)
• Time management, attention to detail, good communication and customer service skills
• Computer and numerical skills
• South African citizen with clear criminal and credit record
• Advantageous: retail FMCG / Dis-Chem front shop experience; Unisolv, SAP and e-scripting
