📝 About the role

Royal Buffalo Specialist Hospital (Africa Health Care) in East London is re-advertising a permanent Confirmations Clerk post, reporting to the Patient Administrations Manager. The clerk secures timely, accurate authorisations for admissions and procedures, verifies benefits and shortfalls, and also handles switchboard duties.

✅ Key duties

• Secure authorisation for patient admissions and scheduled procedures
• Verify patient benefits, scope of cover, shortfalls and co-payments
• Load authorisations and approval documents onto PROCLIN or other platforms
• Monitor the inbox daily and escalate unresolved queries to Case Management
• Flag and track high-risk accounts (pending authorisations, prostheses etc.)
• Ensure in-hospital coding matches authorisation approvals
• Maintain confirmation records, filing and a live tracking dashboard
• Pre-screen admissions for financial clearance
• Contribute monthly statistics on confirmation trends
• Handle switchboard functions

🎓 Requirements

• Grade 12 / Matric (NQF 4)
• 2-3 years in a hospital admissions or authorisation-related role
• Intermediate computer literacy (Word, Excel, PROCLIN/UMS/HCI)
• Understanding of medical aid schemes and funder contracts
• Collaboration, resilience, negotiation, ethics and adaptability
