📝 About the role

North-West University (Potchefstroom) is hiring a permanent Assistant Accountant (Peromnes grade 9) in Financial Planning under the CFO division. The role supports managers and the Accountant with budgeting, financial reporting, reconciliations and controls for assigned organisational units, and deputises for the Accountant.

✅ Key duties

• Co-own financial planning processes with the Accountant and act in their absence
• Take part in and help coordinate the annual budget process
• Help prepare OU and project budgets in line with NWU policy
• Prepare financial reports (subsidy, tuition fees, external funding, debtors, variances) and discuss them with management
• Prepare reports for external parties
• Fulfil the KFS Fiscal Officer role and do reconciliations
• Assist with external contracts, sundry debtors and physical asset control
• Evaluate internal controls and report irregularities and risks

🎓 Requirements

• BCom with Accounting 3 or Management Accounting 3 (NQF 7)
• At least 3 years' financial/management accounting experience in a medium to large organisation
• At least 3 years' experience with ERP systems (e.g. Oracle, KFS)
• Knowledge of management and financial principles
• MS Office literacy with intermediate to advanced Excel
• Good communication, writing and numeracy skills
• Ability to work accurately to deadlines with minimal supervision
